BEST School Behavior — Support
Behavior Evaluation for School Teams
Need help, found a bug, or want to request a feature? Email shaunwilkinson.dev@gmail.com. Please include your device model and iOS version, and if you are reporting a problem, what you were doing when it happened.
Please do not include any student's real name or other identifying information in a support message.
Requirements
- iPhone or iPad running iOS 17.0 or later
- Apple Watch running watchOS 10.0 or later, for the optional companion app
- An iCloud account, if you want your records to sync across devices. The app works without one; records simply stay on the device where you entered them.
Getting started
- Tap + on the Current Cases screen to create a case.
- Give it a code of up to four characters. This stands in for the student's name — the app never asks for real identifying details.
- Add the behaviors of concern you want to track, and any prosocial behaviors you want to reinforce.
- Open the case and start an observation. Tap a behavior each time it occurs; the app timestamps it for you.
- End the session, add notes if you want them, and save.
Common questions
Where is my data stored?
On your device, and — if you are signed in to iCloud — in your own private iCloud database. There is no BEST server. The developer cannot see, export, or recover your records. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Why can't I create a case on my Apple Watch?
Cases are created on iPhone only, deliberately. Setting up a case involves choosing a code and configuring behavior lists, which is error-prone on a small screen, and it keeps one clear source of truth. Once a case exists on your iPhone it appears on the watch automatically, and you can record full observation sessions from there.
My watch isn't showing my cases.
Make sure the watch is paired and in range, and that the BEST watch app has been opened at least once. The roster transfers from the iPhone when both apps are reachable. Opening the iPhone app while the watch is nearby will prompt a fresh transfer.
How do I share a case with a colleague?
Open the case and use the share option to invite them by iCloud account. You choose whether they can view only or also make changes, and you can stop sharing at any time. Sharing a case includes all of its observation sessions and interviews — and the case's behavior, activity, antecedent, and consequence lists, so everyone records with the same vocabulary. Review what a case contains before sharing it.
Why is there no Analysis page on a case shared with me?
That is deliberate. The analysis is computed with the case's evidence weightings and belongs to the case's owner, so on a case shared with you the Analysis page does not appear, regardless of subscription. If you need the FBA, ask the owner to export the report PDF. Cases you create yourself always have their own Analysis page.
How do I delete an observation I recorded by mistake?
Touch and hold the observation's card on the case's Observations page and choose Delete, or open the observation and use Delete Observation at the bottom. Its events, activity segments, and notes are removed with it.
How do I get my data out?
You can export a single session or a whole case as a CSV file, and print a blank rating scale to hand to a teacher, at no cost. Exporting a generated FBA report as a PDF is part of the subscription. Each export uses the standard iOS share sheet, so you can email it, save it to Files, or send it to another app.
Your raw data is never locked behind a subscription. CSV export stays available whether or not you subscribe, and whether or not a subscription has lapsed.
How is the FBA result calculated?
Recorded antecedents and consequences are mapped to the four function domains — attention, escape, tangible, and sensory — and combined with staff interview ratings. You can adjust how heavily each of the three contributes, and how many settings or raters are needed before a domain is weighted at full confidence. These evidence weightings belong to each case and travel with it, so a shared case reads the same on every device. The Analysis page requires a subscription; see below. BEST is a documentation and analysis tool that supports your professional judgment; it does not diagnose.
I deleted something by accident. Can it be restored?
No. Because your records are only ever in your own iCloud account and never on a developer server, there is no backup to restore from. If you use iCloud, deletions sync to your other devices too.
Subscription
What is free, and what needs a subscription?
Creating cases, recording observations, logging ABC data, conducting interviews, reviewing history, printing blank rating scales, and exporting your data as CSV are all free, with no limit on the number of cases.
The subscription unlocks the Analysis page: weighted scoring across the attention, escape, tangible, and sensory functions, the antecedent and consequence pathways for each behavior, adjustable evidence weighting, and the exportable FBA report PDF.
How much does it cost?
$19.99 per year, with the first month free. You can cancel during the free month at no charge.
How do I cancel?
Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, and select BEST School Behavior. Cancelling is handled by Apple, not by the app. If you cancel, you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
Nothing is deleted. Every case, observation, interview, and note stays exactly where it is, and CSV export keeps working. Only the Analysis page locks. If you subscribe again later, your analyses reappear built from the data you already collected.
I subscribed, but the Analysis page is still locked.
Open the Analysis page, tap Unlock Analysis, then tap Restore Purchases. This asks the App Store to re-check your Apple Account. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you used to subscribe. If it still does not unlock, email the address at the top of this page.
Does the subscription work on my other devices?
Yes. It is tied to your Apple Account, so any iPhone or iPad signed in to that account has the Analysis page unlocked. There is nothing to log in to inside the app.
Can my whole team use one subscription?
No. Each practitioner needs their own subscription on their own Apple Account, and it unlocks the analysis for cases they own. The Analysis page of a case shared with you never appears, subscribed or not — the analysis belongs to the case's owner. Sharing itself is free in both directions.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are issued by Apple, not by the developer, who cannot process them. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app did not work as described, please email first so it can be fixed.
Privacy
The privacy policy describes exactly what the app stores, where it goes, and the two features that can move data outward. In short: no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDKs, and no developer access to your records.
